Spandex Nylon Covered Yarn
Spandex is a synthetic fibre known for its exceptional elasticity and light weight, used for manufacturing stretchable materials. First produced in the early 1950s, spandex was initially developed as a replacement for rubber. However, new applications for spandex are continually being developed and combined with other synthetic polymers such as Nylon.
Spandex Covered Yarn is divided into Single Covered Yarn (SCY) and Double Covered Yarn (DCY).
Single-covered yarns are created by wrapping the polyamide such as Nylon, around the fibre. The polyamide used can be flat, textured, multifilament or microfilament. The greater the number of coils, the better the quality and performance of the yarn.
Nylon, like Spandex, is a well-known synthetic polymer. It was invented by Wallace Carothers, and first brought to the public’s attention in October 1938. Nylon is probably the most useful synthetic polymer.
